Spring Soiree FAQ’s

Thank you for registering for our Spring Soiree! We can’t wait to see you and share in the Garfield spirit with us.

When and where is it?

May 7, 2022

Doors open at 5:30, the event runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

This year’s event takes place at the penthouse lounge at Murano Senior Living, a luxury apartment building on First Hill. It has a spectacular view of Elliott Bay, downtown Seattle, the Olympics and the Cascades, and Garfield High School itself, just up Jefferson from the Murano.

The address is 620 Terry Ave, Seattle, WA 98104, and the event will take place on the 24th floor lounge and terrace.

What should I expect?

We will check you into the event on the ground floor and then whisk you up to the penthouse lounge at the top of the building. When you check in, you will receive two drink tickets and a bid number for the fund-a-need and any additional drinks. Once at the 24th floor, you will have the opportunity to view silent auction items (already online at https://ghsptsa2022.ggo.bid/bidding/package-browse). Bidding for the silent auction is entirely online, so you may want to keep your phone handy. Garfield jazz and orchestra students will delight us with their melodies, and Dr. Hart and other teachers and administrators will be present along with other Garfield community members. Towards the end of the evening, Dr. Hart and PTSA  President Kayla Epting will speak. Our emcees for the evening, Choir and Drumline Director Blake Saunders and ASB President Imogen Olstrom will lead a paddle raise to benefit the PTSA and its efforts at Garfield.

What is  there to eat and drink?

Unlike past years, this will not be a full sit-down dinner, but there will be heavy appetizers to delight you. Tickets include 2 drinks and guests may select from  beer generously donated by Optimism Brewery, wine from Precept, soft drinks and a custom Garfield-purple cocktail! If you wish to purchase further drinks for $7 each, you can put them on your bid number and pay at checkout.

What should I wear?

Wear what is comfortable to you, but we encourage festive, springy cocktail attire! It’s been too long since we have had a chance to get spruced up. But everyone is welcome as they are. We recommend having a sweater or a light coat if you would like to spend time on the spectacular terrace. The night air may be chilly.

How are donations processed?

Auction items are bid upon on your own device (or one of several tablets we will have at the event) through the Greater Giving website. The fund-a-need and additional drink tickets are also processed through Greater Giving. It is most efficient to register a credit card with your bid number during registration at the event. We can also run credit cards at the end of the event.

What is the PTSA raising money for?

Each donation goes to PTSA funds for teacher appreciation, classroom stipends, college and career support, family support services and more.

Here are examples of how your donations to the Garfield PTSA can support our students, faculty and staff:

$25 -  can keep students creative with the supplies they need for visual arts classes.

$50 – helps to purchase a yearbook for a student, making sure every senior gets a yearbook regardless of family income.

$100 – pays for 5 teacher appreciation lunches

$250 – helps a teacher get their classroom set for the year with a stipend we give to every faculty member.

$500 – covers our technology licenses for the year, to send out our weekly newsletters and host large meetings online

$1000 – can fund a small grant for teachers or staff—the small grants, distributed by the Building Leadership Team can help buy books, fund a club, or help assure students receive college credit for an innovative math class

$2500-- At this level, 25 families receive gift cards to help with groceries and home supplies

$5000 – covers the cost of  tutoring support for an AmeriCorps volunteer for half the school year

How can I get more involved next year?

So glad you asked! We have several open positions on the board next year and we need your perspective and energy to help keep Garfield thriving. Please contact PTSA President Kayla Epting at president@garfieldptsa.org  if you would like to find out more.

What about Covid?

Be prepared to show a Vaccination record or a negative Covid test from within 48 hours of the event.
